Liberal Democrats 'Make It Happen' in Norwich8.21.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 17th Jul 2008 Liberal Democrats in Norwich will be spending this summer asking people in Norwich for their views on a set of proposals unveiled by the Party in their new 'Make It Happen' policy paper. The paper, launched today by Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg, sets out the Party's position on a range of issues and is set to be debated in detail at the Liberal Democrat conference in September. Simon Wright, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Norwich South, will be at that conference and is now seeking views on how these proposals would affect people in Norwich. In 'Make it Happen' the Liberal Democrats say: They will cut taxes for ordinary families If your local hospital can't see you on time, they will pay for treatment elsewhere They will switch taxes from people to pollution - so it pays to go green To improve standards in education, they will fund extra help for those who need it most They will put Britain at the heart of Europe to make us a force for good in the world They will stop ID cards so we can keep control of our privacy They will change the voting system so everyone's voice counts They will bring communities together with local people in charge They will give communities a say in how offenders pay for their crimes Mr Wright said, "I am very supportive of the proposals in this paper, and I now want to seek wider opinion outside of the Party. This summer, I will be talking to people across the whole city about the issues raised in this paper and how these proposals will affect peoples' daily lives." "Residents in Norwich are being punished by the rising cost of living, and the increased burden of taxation. Local people are feeling the pinch." "It is time to look at cutting taxes for those on low and middle incomes, and increase the fairness of the taxation system."
