Three City Post Offices Set to be on Closure List

9.19.00am GMT Wed 26th Mar 2008

North Earlham, Rosary Road, and Vauxhall Street Post Offices in Norwich all look set to be included on the branch closure list to be published later today.

Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for Norwich South, Simon Wright, has been campaigning against any post office closures in the city. Commenting, Mr Wright said:

"It is very disappointing to see these branches included on the closure list. I have been contacted by many people who rely on these post offices. Many elderly and disabled people are particularly worried as they don't all have the mobility to get to another post office. The Government is encouraging people to use computers more and more to gain access to some services, but this is simply not an option for many post office users in Norwich."

"I have also been contacted by local businesses who use these branches on a daily basis. It is damaging for a business to lose local facilities, as they then have to give up staff time to travel further when post office services are needed."

"We must continue to fight to keep these branches open for the local communities that will be affected by their closure."
